If you haven’t yet discovered the awesome thing that is wedding branding, hop on over to this post to get a great definition of what it is. In a nutshell: wedding branding is finding a unique look for your wedding through design–colors, fonts, images, textures–and bringing it all together in a complete package that fits your vision. Today, we’re going to be talking about five reasons we think YOU should jump on board with wedding branding as you plan your wedding day!
1. It helps you focus your vision and “see” it in action.
When Erick and I first got engaged, I opened up that secret Pinterest board I’d been pinning random wedding ideas on for months (years?) and immediately got overwhelmed. I had pinned ideas from ALL over the place, and nothing seemed to really go together. Did I want a classic black and white wedding? A country-style barn wedding with sunflowers? A pink lemonade theme? (These were all actual ideas I had, by the way). I was confused by everything on my board, and began a long process of re-organizing. I got nowhere. No joke, guys, it wasn’t until I started looking at fonts, yes, fonts, that I realized what direction I wanted my wedding to head. I knew the kind of font style I was drawn to didn’t match any of those themes–it was a rustic, elegant style that belonged somewhere in the olive gardens of Italy. And that’s how our vision was born. I started a new Pinterest board, pinning elements that matched the branding I was going for.
That’s not to say you can’t have a killer idea from the get-go, and then find a font and colors to match it, of course, but when you find the perfect font to go with that vision, I’m a big believer that that’s when you’ll start to see it all come together. So much of your wedding day involves words–the invitations, your vows, directions for the guests, the program–and the right font has the right voice and a tone to make it all work!
2. It makes the design process much faster.
Once we’ve helped you decide on the perfect font pairings and have nailed down your tone and colors, design decisions are going to be that much easier. We’ll be able to use similar design elements in every piece, from the programs to the menus to the name cards, that will not only look cohesive but will be much faster to design than if we started from scratch each time and had to look for a new set of fonts. And that means less stressful decision making for you–we know you have enough of that going on!
3. It helps guide other parts of your wedding.
My florist was really pleased when I brought in a color palette to our initial meeting. At the time, I was virtually flower-illiterate (like, I knew “rose” and “carnation”), but I knew colors, so it was really easy for her (and me!) to use that as a guide to choose the blooms that were available that season in our palette. We also matched everything from our bridal party’s attire to the color of the napkins on the table using that color palette. Having an actual swatch to show someone what “rosewood” means is a lot easier than saying “it’s kind of pink and kind of brown”–um, that doesn’t sound nearly as pretty as rosewood really is.
4. It really translates well on the wedding day and makes it even more memorable.
Creating a seamless look to all your designed pieces and signage will help all parts of your day flow together smoothly as well. Believe it or not, guests will notice the continuity and this will help them focus on the details. Branding your favors with your logo, for example, conveys the time you took to give them a special gift. It will look clean, planned, and professional–and best of all, it will be one more thing to make your wedding memorable and help it stand out from others. We even branded our centerpieces (pallet boxes hand made by Erick). I wondered if anyone would even notice–but they did! We got so many comments from guests that this was one of their favorite decor elements of our wedding.
In contrast, have you ever been at an event and noticed that everything printed looked like it was designed by somebody different? That’s what happens when you don’t nail down fonts and other elements ahead of time. You (or whoever is helping you) might choose a different font (and therefore a different feel) each time, maybe even depending on how you’re feeling that day! This inconsistency results in a mish-mash of multiple designs and tones that can be confusing and cause guests to instead focus on the differences instead of the actual message you’re trying to convey.
5. It’s something that is uniquely you as a couple.
A wedding is about joining the two of you together forever. It’s a celebration of what makes you as a couple. We strive to capture and represent that visually in the branding we provide. We want you–and your guests–to take a look at your wedding branding and decor and say, “That’s so ‘_____.'” In the age of Pinterest, it’s so easy to want ALL THE THINGS (believe me, I know), but we’re all about editing and curating and refining until we hone in on what you truly love–what’s truly representative of your love together.
So those are some reasons we think it’s so important to build a wedding brand for yourself! There are probably way more reasons we could go into (like–isn’t having a logo for your wedding just…cool??), but these are some of the biggest ways we think it can be helpful to you as you plan and organize all the little details of a wedding. Planning all the parts of a wedding is a big job–but branding your wedding can make it that much easier.
