Who knew that in the midst of planning my own wedding, my freelance design business would start to take off the way it has. Friends and clients have been encouraging to establish an online presence for a while now, and although I did have a portfolio site showcasing some of my work (and a new one in progress that hasn’t launched yet), showing off what I can do in my day job doesn’t really attract the kind of clients that my personal design work does. I work for a food manufacturing company, and I design bright, colorful, information-packed sales materials and brochures every day. I have a lot of fun doing that, but my true love is elegant, simple design and branding. I’m drawn to finding new ways to capture the essence of new design trends while producing something classic and timeless. And that’s why I wanted to start Gallerie Q.
Truth be told, the extra push behind the brand launch was a friend of mine who is currently planning a wedding at the same time as I am. As we gushed over paper quality, letterpress feels, and awesome wedding color palettes, she asked me if I would be willing to design her Save the Dates. She showed me some examples of what she liked, and I said I’d give her something by that night. A few tweaks later, she had some pretty Save the Date magnets, and told me how thrilled she was. By the time I designed her gold-embossed invitation suite, she was really encouraging me to start a Facebook page. “I want to tag you with all my other vendors!” she kept saying, in order to publicly thank me and advertise me to her newly engaged friends.
Hmm. A Facebook page. But I need a name. A brand name, not just my name. Oh yeah, that’s another thing. My name is changing soon. My business name (basically for tax purposes) was just LG Graphic Designs. Well, I’m not going to be LG anymore. I’m going to have an awesome new letter for my last name initial–Q. Before I knew it, I’d settled on the name Gallerie Q, which captures the artsy, chic vibe I’m going for. I dabble in photography now and again, and so “gallerie” (the Italian word for gallery) would apply to my photographic art as well. It just fits.
So we’re just getting started. My brain is exploding with tons of ideas of content for the blog, products for an upcoming wedding shop, and examples I should showcase. I’ll be launching a Facebook page soon so my clients can tag me, and I’ll be announcing the brand launch there as well. For now, stay tuned as the site goes under lots of development!
